Chapter Fifteen

Girl, look at you all glowing and grinning!” Janelle exclaimed as she sat down next to Kenya. “I know a happy and sexually satisfied woman when I see one.”

“That’s because you stared at yourself in the mirror,” she retorted. Thanks to filming, nearly working around the clock on costumes, and an emergency order that the shop couldn’t refuse, she and Cam hadn’t had time to talk about the sexual tension rising between them, much less act on it. In fact, the few bits of sexual satisfaction she’d achieved had been half-hearted and one-handed.

She wiggled her eyebrows, ready to be distracted by someone else’s love life. “Bringing your man to game night? Y’all must be serious!”

Janelle waved a perfectly manicured hand. “It’s too early. I don’t have serious relationship slated in my long-range plans for another two years.”

Kenya followed her friend’s gaze to see Janelle’s boyfriend, Dev, and Cam competing against their friends Rachel and Sam in a hot new game called Legendsfall. The latter duo seemed to be winning. No surprise there, since Sam was on her way to becoming a professional gamer.

Yet Janelle wasn’t watching the gameplay, and the expression she wore spoke volumes of poetry. “Life happens, and it has a way of fucking with our long-range plans,” Kenya pointed out. “I’m going to guess that love does that, too.”

Janelle exhaled, but she didn’t deny it. Her eyes widened as if she’d just had a major revelation. “He wants me to go with him when he goes back to New Delhi to visit his family.”

“Girl, what?”

Everyone turned at Kenya’s shout. Both Cam and Dev wore matching expressions of concern. In unison, Kenya and Janelle waved them off with matching smiles of reassurance, and they turned their attention back to the game.

Kenya turned back to Janelle, dropping her volume to a whisper. “Girl. What?”

“Yeah.” Shock layered the happiness in her expression. “Not only would it be our first real vacation together, but he wants me to meet his family. His entire family.”

“Girl. What?” Shock pressed Kenya into the back of the love seat. She sat upright, then reached for her drink to take a healthy sip, and asked the question that needed to be asked. “Do they know?”

“Yeah. When we became Instagram official, he sent them pictures and my profile info, so I’m sure they mined the heck out of it. His parents . . . they want to FaceTime with us this weekend.”

“Ohmygod.” Kenya bounced in her seat, then grabbed Janelle in a hug. “I’m so happy for you!”

“Thanks?”

The uncertainty in that one word made Kenya put her enthusiasm on pause. Of all the words one could use to describe Janelle, uncertain never made the list. “Do you not want to meet them?”

“I think I do.” Janelle sighed. “Once I recovered from the thought of having to trash my long-term plans, I liked the idea of re-forming them to include Dev. He’s smart, warm, funny, kind, sexy, considerate, gorgeous, proactive, and . . . he ticks off almost all the boxes on my potential-partner checklist.
